"I cannot live without books" ~ Thomas Jefferson

Don't you just love books! I mean, even if you are not a reader you must be able to appreciate the fine words printed on pages, the imagination of those whose stories are spun out on paper, the way a wonderfully written sentence can send you over the edge into another world or into tears or fits of laughter! My personal favorite is the book that brings the knowing little smile to my face. The kind of smile that just creeps in as you are reading a particular part and you just have to stop and reflect.

So, I have found a little challenge for myself over the next year. A delightful blog, who actually found me (so happy about), PoshMomma is hosting a 2009 challenge for all who wanna. To read 100 books in a year! And, 25 out of the 100 must be nonfiction. You can read about her resolution here and here. I am so ready!

While on the subject I found this amazing video on this blog. I can not read it but the writer is obviously a book lover. Oh, to be in a world of books and have the words of fairytales written upon your back!

What books do you love the best? Or any wonderful suggestions?

I just finished reading a mystery/drama type book I picked up on a whim called "You look lovely tonight". I ended up reading the whole thing in 1 night! I normally don't have time to read much with my 4 kids, but i'ts one of my resolutions to read more. Thanks for your motivational post!

i'd like to try that - read 100 in a year - but I won't promise anything. since i've been blogging and reading blogs, my novel reading has gone WAY down. i need to balance it all out. It's funny, i've picked up about 3 or 4 books lately and just can't get in to them. any great book suggestions?

syw: I know, aren't blogs addicting! If you just can't seem to get through an entire novel try some great short stories! You can pick them up any time and there are some really wonderful ones out there. My favorites:A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain by Robert Olen Butler, Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri (all of her work is worth reading),& Brief Encounters with Che Guevara by Ben Fountain. Great characters and stories that keep you enthralled but leave you feeling fulfilled in the end. Good Luck.

cnc: That sounds gripping! I'll have to try it. I'll need a one nighter for this challenge!

I love that resolution, what a great idea! I'm currently reading "Covered Wagon Women". It's a collection of diaries and letters written by women traveling west during the 1840's. It's absolutely fascinating (and a bit frightening) to learn what those women had to go through.

Wow! I'm glad you're so excited about the bookathon! And, just so you know, your fish are well fed. I just stuffed them full of food. That thing is fun!
